Privacy

Your content is yours.
Full stop.

Here's exactly what we collect, what we don't, and how your data is protected. Because you deserve to actually understand this.

What we promise

The commitments that don't move.

🔒

Nobody reads your content

Not even Amy. Your content and your conversations are private to you - full stop.

🚫

Your words don't train AI

Your AI conversations are not used to train any AI model. Anthropic powers the AI conversation feature, and they cannot use your words for that.

🗑️

Delete means delete

When you delete your data, it's gone. Not archived somewhere, not flagged for review. You can delete everything from Settings, any time.

🤫

No selling, no ads

We don't sell your data. We don't show you ads. We don't share your writing with anyone. You're the customer, not the product.

Exactly what we need, nothing more.

Here's everything Driftwood stores and why:

  • Your email address - for login and account recovery. That's it. We don't email you anything except what you ask for.
  • What you put in - the text, voice transcripts, photos, and sketches you put in Driftwood. Stored on your account, private by default, accessible only to you.
  • Your AI conversations - stored for your use (so the AI conversation feature can remember what you've talked about across sessions). Visible only to you. Deletable any time.
  • Voice recordings - transcribed on your behalf so your words become text. The audio is used only to produce the transcript and is not kept afterward. If you turn on optional live transcription, audio is streamed to your device's speech service (Google or Apple) to produce the text as you speak; you can turn this off in Settings.
  • Aggregate behavioral patterns - things like "how many fragments per week" at a population level, anonymized and never tied to what you wrote. This helps us understand whether the product is working.

The AI conversation feature may also store "self-facts" - things you've explicitly shared about yourself (your name, things you want it to know). This is opt-in, labeled clearly in Settings, and purged if you turn it off.

This is the list that matters.

Sell your data Never. Not to data brokers, not to advertisers, not to anyone.
Show you ads There are no ads in Driftwood. There won't be.
Share your content Your content and conversations are not shared with any third party.
Train AI on your writing Your content is not used to train public AI models. Anthropic powers the AI conversation feature and cannot use your words for that.
Read your content (admin) Even we can't access your content or your conversations. This is built in, not just promised.
Keep your data when you delete it Delete means delete. No shadow archives.

Who else touches your data, and why.

Anthropic - powers the AI conversation feature. They cannot see your content or use your words to train public AI models. Anthropic's privacy policy →

Our database provider - stores your data securely so it's there when you need it. Only your account can access your content. Their privacy policy →

Our hosting provider - serves the app. They run the infrastructure that makes Driftwood available when you open it. Their privacy policy →

That's the full list. We don't use analytics platforms that track you across the web. We don't use ad networks. We don't have tracking pixels.

The honest caveat.

Driftwood runs on servers and is not end-to-end encrypted. That means that, like every hosted service, we can be legally compelled to disclose data by a valid court order or similar legal process. No one at Driftwood reads your content in the operation of the service — there is no admin view of it — but we won't pretend a court couldn't reach it, because that wouldn't be true of us or of any service built this way.

If we ever receive such a request, we will disclose only what we are legally required to disclose, and we will notify you unless the law prohibits it.

Your account, your call.

You can export all your data from Settings at any time. You can delete individual pieces of content, individual conversations, or everything - all from within the app.

If you delete your account, everything goes with it: your content, your conversations, your self-facts. We don't keep copies. (We do keep anonymized aggregate behavioral counts - things like "a user in this cohort used voice capture N times" - which are already stripped of identifying content.)

If you're in the EU or UK, you have additional rights under GDPR/UK GDPR - to access, rectify, erase, and port your data. You also have the right to object to or restrict processing. Contact us at hello@mydriftwood.app if you need help exercising any of these rights.

California residents have additional rights under CCPA - you can ask what data we have about you and request deletion. Same email.

We're reachable.

If something in here is unclear, or you want to know more about how your data is handled, reach out. Amy reads everything.
